Global leadership recognises Meticuly's success in 3D printing and intellectual property

The visit was marked by a strategic dialogue led by a distinguished delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP). The objective was to see firsthand how a deep-tech company is successfully translating protected intellectual property into tangible commercial products with global reach. The event was also supported by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Chulalongkorn University, reinforcing Meticuly's strong ties to its academic origins.

From intellectual property to international impact: the Meticuly journey

During the visit, our team had presented the full arc of our innovation journey, demonstrating how intellectual property is the critical starting point for creating real-world patient impact. The presentation showcased our IP-protected workflow, from AI-powered design software and 3D printing to the final patient-specific implant for procedures like Cranioplasty and Orthognathic Surgery.

  1. The IP foundation: We began by showcasing how our foundational patents are about more than just a product; they protect an entire integrated workflow, from our AI-powered design software to our proprietary quality management systems for 3D printing.

  2. The clinical case: We then illustrated this with an actual clinical case, showing how our IP-protected process transforms a patient's CT scan into a patient-specific implant.

  3. The point of care concept: The presentation progressed to our "Factory-in-a-Box" model, explaining how this point of care solution brings our technology directly into hospitals for maximum efficiency and collaboration.

  4. International expansion: Finally, we outlined how this IP-backed business model is the engine for our global expansion, led by our advanced solutions for complex procedures like Cranioplasty and Orthognathic Surgery within the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Chedtha Puncreobutr, our CTO and Co-founder, stated, “Receiving the WIPO Global Award in 2024, as the first and only Thai company to receive this prestigious honour, was a significant turning point. The Director General's visit today is a testament to the success of our entire team in leveraging intellectual property to commercialise our innovations and create real societal benefits.”

A landmark achievement: The WIPO global award

The WIPO Global Awards program, initiated in 2022, is a highly competitive award designed to honour exceptional SMEs worldwide that use IP to make a positive impact. Meticuly’s 2024 victory made history, establishing our company's journey from a Chulalongkorn University research spin-off to an internationally recognised medical technology firm.

This high-level visit from WIPO serves as both a validation of our past efforts and a catalyst for our future. It reinforces our commitment to investing in research and development and protecting our innovations as we expand our global footprint, proving that we can solve global healthcare challenges.
