InceptMan: a step forward in AI for oral and maxillofacial surgery with 81.5% accuracy and 10 times more efficient.

Meticuly is proud to announce the publication of a groundbreaking research paper, "InceptMan: An InceptionNeXt-Based Architecture for End-to-End Mandible Reconstruction," in the prestigious IEEE Xplore journal. This collaborative success with leading AI researcher Assoc. Prof. Peerapon Vateekul, Ph.D. his team from Chulalongkorn University and Mahidol University introduces a new AI model poised to transform surgical planning for complex mandible defects.

The field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery constantly seeks innovations to improve patient outcomes. Reconstructing the mandible is a technically demanding procedure where precision is paramount. The creation of a personalised implant requires an accurate digital plan of the patient's anatomy, a process that can be time-consuming. The InceptMan AI model directly addresses this challenge.

The core philosophy behind InceptMan was to create an AI that is not only accurate but also exceptionally fast and efficient for real-world clinical use. The research highlights a significant leap in performance:

  • Superior Accuracy: The InceptMan model increased accuracy from a baseline of 71.25% to 81.51%.

  • Unmatched Efficiency: It performs its function 1.4 times faster and achieves results comparable to much larger models (like UNETR) with nearly 10 times fewer parameters.

This leap was made possible by a novel architecture and an innovative data augmentation technique, where the AI was trained using artificially created defects on CT scans from a healthy population.

Meticuly’s role in providing clinical guidance and anonymised data was instrumental to the project's success. This collaboration underscores our commitment to not just manufacturing implants, but to actively participating in foundational research that pushes the boundaries of medical technology. By integrating faster, more robust AI into the workflow, we can significantly shorten the time from CT scan to surgical plan, empowering surgeons to design the perfect personalised implant with greater speed and confidence.

This research marks a significant step forward in making advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery more efficient and accessible. Meticuly is proud to partner with Thailand's brightest minds to build a future where technology and medicine converge for better patient care.
