Meticuly was delighted to welcome a group of senior Chemical Engineering students from Chulalongkorn University for a special company visit and knowledge-sharing session. The event, held on November 3rd, focused on bridging the critical gap between academic research in biomaterials and the real-world application of life-changing medical devices.
As a proud spin-off from Chulalongkorn University, this visit was a meaningful opportunity for us to connect with the next generation of innovators and share our journey from a research concept to a global MedTech company.
From the Laboratory to the Operating Theatre of Patient-Specific Implants
Our Head of R&D, Mr Thanawat Phetrattanarangsi, provided the students with an inside look at our end-to-end workflow, demonstrating how we apply the principles of their biomaterials and chemical engineering studies. They learned how our process transforms a surgeon's plan into a high-precision Patient Specific Implant.
This journey involves:
Deep Research: Applying material science to select the best, most biocompatible materials, such as medical-grade titanium.
Digital Design: Using advanced software to convert a patient's CT scan into a precise 3D model.
Advanced Manufacturing: Leveraging cutting-edge 3D printing to fabricate implants with complex geometries that would be impossible to create with traditional methods.
A key theme of the visit was the importance of collaboration. A successful Patient Specific Implant is not just an engineering achievement; it is the result of a close partnership between engineers and surgeons.
Our team shared how we work directly with surgeons in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to develop solutions for highly complex procedures. This includes:
Cranioplasty: Creating bespoke implants to reconstruct a patient's skull with a perfect anatomical fit, restoring both safety and aesthetics.
Orthognathic Surgery: Manufacturing custom surgical guides and plates that allow surgeons to perform corrective jaw surgery with unparalleled accuracy and predictability.
By understanding the surgeon's exact needs, we can design and deliver a Patient Specific Implant that seamlessly integrates into their surgical plan, ultimately reducing operating time and improving patient outcomes.
Inspiring the Future
Our mission extends beyond creating products; it includes fostering the ecosystem that makes such innovation possible. We were incredibly impressed by the students' insightful questions and passion for the field. We hope this visit provided them with a clear vision of how their engineering education can be a powerful force for improving lives.
Meticuly is grateful for the opportunity to have hosted this bright group from Chulalongkorn University and looks forward to seeing how they will shape the future of medicine and technology.
