Using of medical three-dimensional printing technology (3DPT) is an alternative and noteworthy option for achieving satisfactory outcome in the treatment of CVD. The method was believed to generate a customized osteotomy guide and patient-matched monoblock crosslink plate provides a new insight for accurate control of the deformity correction by improving the accuracy of osteotomy and stability of fixation, and therefore, avoiding a prolonged operative time and unnecessary blood loss, and decreasing the risk of postoperative complications.

The patient-specific implant created with 3D printing technology provided satisfactory functional result in treatment of a severe open distal humerus fracture with complete loss of the lateral column. This could also be a useful treatment for other locations and other patterns of the massive osteoarticular humeral defect as the implant can be designed to accommodate to the native anatomy and allow the ligament repair or reconstruction.

Topic: Case report of customized distal radius prosthesis replacement: An alternative treatment for post-traumatic unreconstructable intraarticular distal radius malunion

The patient was satisfied and able to return to work two months after the operation. Thirty months later, the range of motion had improved from fixed 40° flexion and fixed 70° pronation deformity to 73° flexion, 79° extension, 75° supination, and 85° pronation. His DASH (Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand) score had improved from 80 to 14.2. His pain score, as measured by the visual analog scale, improved from eight preoperatively to two.

A patient-matched metacarpal titanium prosthesis appears to provide satisfactory functional outcome and aesthetic appearance. This could be a valid alternative for the treatment of the entire first metacarpal bone loss following the en bloc resection. This reconstructive technique has the benefit of avoiding the donor-site complications and sparing the autogenous bone graft for the revision options.

A novel amorphous alloy thin film shown supporting of the osteogenic differentiation process of SaOS-2 cells and the differentiation was even better than control Ti–6Al–4V. All results point out that the novel Ti based amorphous alloy has potential for using as a new coating for biomedical application.
